Qn: "Appearances are deceiving." Elaborate using appropriate examples from case studies and real-life experiences. (50 marks)
backdated entry.

I've realised that it's quite amusing to talk to people in class. I'm quite sorry I didn't actually try to talk to many people last year, resulting in a backlog of conversation this year. Sometimes the verbal (or non-verbal) barriers that we build around ourselves are more intimidating than our appearances. Even though appearances sure help in repelling potential conversation buddies. Like hm. Maybe if I go around school wearing my white hoodie with my hands in my pockets, my strange "emo" lop-sided hair and a murderous expression on my face, people will be sufficiently repelled and/or scared off by my appearance. Especially since it doesn't convey the typical air of femininity that they are used to from "people like me", although I'm not even sure what
that means. Maybe that's one reason why it's good to have this hairstyle. I need an image change from the supposedly bimbo, vain and girly Rachel who squeals when she is poked. Dunno. Maybe their perception of the long-haired, short skirted Rachel corresponds to their opinion of my intellectual capabilities, thus explaining a general reluctance to talk to me about things not regarding fashion, boys and make up. Or maybe I'm wrong. But is it any wonder that people are shocked when they realise my interest in reading up on philosophy, religion and thought experiments and keeping up my grades, in addition to my interest in clothes, shopping and other typical girly past times? Oh well. At least now I'm labelled a mugger. Better than being labelled an airhead, I guess, though I don't see how surfing the net and playing Sims 2 for 6 hours counts as mugging.
I'm so distracted. Yuck. My thoughts are all over the place. Anyway back to the extended thought experiment of me going around school with a machete in my bag... That's not gonna work the way I see it. I'm usually predisposed to waving cheerfully and energetically to friends I happen to see at school. Unless it's someone who skulks around looking like they don't want to be disturbed. Which is usually not the case for most people. Haha.
I digress. Today was rather amusing, as I've already mentioned. More new quotes from a hole (I learn from someone. Best to take precutions against the new wave of teachers who use google). Most of the quotes/anecdotes masquerading as jokes aren't worth a mention, but there's one really funny one: XX is going on about how we lose marks in random places and used the metaphor of a "leaky faucet" to describe that. Then said entity promptly went on to ask (rather unwisely) if we knew which holes our marks were leaking out from. Our dear "mel" (sniggers) countered with a pert mention of his name, albeit in a rather soft fashion, to which XX barks "I heard that!" The whole class burst out laughing. XX responds by saying something about not being the one to stop the holes from leaking and by that time I was laughing so hard that I swore (in my head) unconsciously. I think if we had XX's lesson for 1.5 hours every time I'd die from the embarrassment I feel for XX before dying from the killer and humourless "jokes" that abound. That being said, it's a breath of fresh air from 2008, the air being the smell that wafts from mouldy oranges refusing to rot properly.
After lessons had ended we were at class bench as usual. I broke my customary silence towards the majority of the guys by recounting the newest exploits of our beloved hole. From the look on LC's bemused face, Xiang jie's look of pure ectasy and Rz's guffaw, I could tell that this was a whopper. I lingered in the moment for a while, then decided to head home for lunch and the company of my mac. On the way to the canteen, I met CP, Lester and CH. Random conversation about Linus ensued. Then CH asked me how the 100xstrut modelling went ! and if I'd bought the Dream Theater CD I'd set my sights on ! If you're reading this now don't feel offended at my surprise. I'm just not used to comments like that from people regarding my blog posts, heh. Err because not many read and even fewer remember. And to know that someone follows my blog so judiciously (and probably many other blogs too as Lester pointed out :P) is a rather interesting/flattering thing. But thank you (: You made my day. And just for the record, you're a really nice person - opinion widely held by class people fyi.
My day ends here, with a call from someone. I'm getting more and more exhausted by this whole thing. It's dragging my mood down. But I'm glad we cleared up more stuff today. I feel like I'm in the process of moving house over an extended period of time. Lots of stuff to shift but many of the boxes and belongings are too heavy to shift right away. Lots of dust on the shelves that have yet to be cleaned. Oh well. Things take time. Soon, I will be completely settled in my new house.
